Does just what it says. The mat is a bit thicker than other mats so your cat may not like it at first and try to jump over it lol. Mine got used to it very quickly. It also helps to have a covered box so when they do try to jump, they end up on the mat because they can't clear the top of the box. Of course, if the litter you use sticks to the cats feet for whatever reason, you will still find litter elsewhere. It is not the mat. As I said, it does what it is supposed to do. I love mine!
