Freshly remodeled Colonial mansion settled on six verdant acres in historic Dorset.

The Destination
Historic Dorset, Vermont, may as well be a poster child for the seasons: Its flower-laden springs are cool and crisp; its summers are bright and green; its falls are afire with some of the best foliage in the country; and its winters are frosted with magic. The constant here, however, is in the town's historic community. Quaint farmhouses and clapboard barns dot the landscape on one end while iconic covered bridges nest over the granite-lined creeks on the other. In the center of it all is a close-knit town bound by cultural riches, including two theaters, several art galleries, and two sprawling country clubs with lush, manicured greens.

The Digs
An early American treasure located in the heart of Dorset's historic district, Barrows House is a sprawling Colonial mansion that rests on six acres of forest-lined gardens. Each of the individually appointed rooms boasts a different decorating theme, though all are outfitted with king- and queen-size beds, crisp linens, bathrooms with pedestal sinks, and bright, inviting décor—some rooms even boast in-room fireplaces. Guests may like to walk the grounds and rest in the gazebo on warm days or take advantage of the inn's pool and tennis courts. An on-site gastropub offers gourmet pub fare and a wide selection of beer and wine—a convenient solution to dining out.

  • "Beautiful hotel in a very charming town. Richard, the manager, was particularly helpful."
