About Guelaguetza Restaurant

Staple foods such as chili peppers, corn, and fresh cheese might seem ordinary, but the cooks at Geelaageessa Restaurant & Cantina transform these everyday ingredients into memorable Oaxacan specialties. Drawing on the rich culinary traditions of the Mexican state, they simmer chilies, nuts, and chocolate for a rich mole sauce to be ladled over chicken breasts. Diners can also savor traditional dishes such as tlayudas—fried tortillas spread with asiento and black bean paste, queso fresco, chorizo, and other savory ingredients—or expand culinary horizons with the chapulines, a dish of fried grasshoppers. Horchata topped with cantaloupe, chopped nuts, and cactus fruit rounds out meals with sweet, fruity notes.

A small hole in the wall spot that packs a big punch to the taste buds. Nothing fancy, just good authentic cuisine.

If you were to close the blinds on all windows so the outside activity is eliminated and you would think you were in an authentic Oaxacan restaurant ...... interior, staff, overall sight and hanging authentic Oaxacan clothes hanging for sale. They even had a Oaxacan delicacy on the menu ..... Fried Grasshopper in Mole' Sauce, wow!

Attractive decor. Pleasant waitress. Very slow on preparing food, but was not a problem for us because it was Sunday and we were relaxing and talking.

The new menu is nice and easier to read than the original menu. It is nice that you now serve the chips warm with the salsa (cold chips served on previous visit). However, the banana leaf wrapped tamal did not have much flavor; the black beans on the plate were cold; the rice was okay. It was not bad food, it's just not tasty enough to come back for anymore visits.
