We live near Albany, NY and are drawn to nearby Old Bennington, VT for antiquing and Manchester Center for outlet shopping. We had often noticed The Four Chimneys Inn almost directly across from Camelot Village and wondered what a unique experience it would be to stay at the beautiful inn and walk its elegant park-like grounds as a midweek sanity-check. We took advantage of July 4th being in the middle of the week this year and we parlayed the opportunity to get away from home and drive through the beautiful Green Mountains while leaving New York State’s omnipresent billboards far behind. (We live in the foothills of the Adirondack Mountains, but for me the billboards taint the otherwise pristine mountain views in New York State.) Upon our arrival, we were met by Lynn Green, our friendly innkeeper who directed us to nearby St. Anthony’s Country Club, within the shadow of nearby Bennington Monument, for a late lunch. We were assigned to Room 1 at the top of the staircase where we were treated to a spacious room with hardwood floors, a comfortable king-size bed and a cozy sofa located in front of an elegant bay window. It was the middle of summer, so the air conditioned room was comfortable, but the room included a modern working gas-log fireplace. The adjoining bath was clean and modern with a large Jacuzzi tub and a spacious (36” x 30”) white-tiled shower with a black granite tile floor. The vanity was over-sized and quite tall which satisfied my 5’ 10” wife’s needs. We stayed two days always opting for a 9am breakfast of scrambled eggs, coffee, multi-grain toast and delicious fresh fruit cups. We had our own dedicated cheerful waitress, since we had the dining room all to ourselves both days and the “assigned seating” was designated by a small framed sign saying “Guests Room No. 1.” In summary, the inn and the setting were exquisite and superbly maintained. The innkeeper and the staff were pleasant, helpful and extremely accommodating and you could tell that working at the beautiful inn was as rewarding as staying there. I emailed our innkeeper, Lynn, subsequent to our departure, that we were “Green with envy that anyone could live in such beauty and elegance and still call it work!”

Thank you so much for your hospitality. We were very comfortable in our room (#10) and we appreciate your attention to detail. One suggestion is to improve wheelchair accessibility into the Inn. Handicap parking is next to inaccessible stairs. The ramped entrance is quite a distance from the larger parking lot. While a power chair user can cover the distance, it's a long way for a manual chair user to push him/herself up the walk, or to be pushed by someone. Otherwise, we were very pleased with our first stay in your lovely inn.
