About Meko Sauce

Ghanaian cuisine leans heavily on a sauce combining peppers, onions, ginger, oil, tomatoes, and shrimp. The pepper and ginger slice through the gentle acidity of tomatoes and the sweetness of shrimp, complementing both meat and vegetable dishes. The cooks behind Delight of Africa started out making batches as a favor to friends and family. Today, they still follow a recipe for the sauce handed down from their grandparents, using only fresh ingredients and never adding preservatives or food coloring. They also hold cooking lessons, teaching groups to re-create traditional West African recipes and broaden their horizons without the dangers of touching a spinning globe.

The instructor and contents of the class were delightful. The room/kitchen used was not comfortable due to lack of heat. We huddled around the stove top and burners as much for warmth as for the cooking experience.

Vita was a delight. We helped prepare the food, learned about the seasonings, and enjoyed several delicious dishes!

I had a fantastic time! Everything was amazing. Vida was a great teacher and made you feel very comfortable about cooking and understanding the culture. I really enjoyed the hands-on environment and the commerical kitchen and location was very nice. Every dish we made was extremely tasteful and plentiful. I would definitely take this class again. Thanks!

I learned a lot about Ghanaian cooking. Vida is a very cheerful and good teacher. I enjoyed the meal we made and plan to make a dish or two at home soon!

It would have been better if there had been more hands on work for the 11 of us who signed up to do this workshop. Food is good but it wasn't worth $69.00

Was extremely disappointed with the class. Instructor was late; class was held in greasy donut shop; very little instruction except for being told that it's hot in Ghana and they use ginger and garlic; instructor had her back to the class while she cooked and had very little interaction with students. At the end we were given a coupon for our friends so they could take the class for $19 less than what we paid. For $69, this was a total waste of money. I would not recommend this class to anyone.

We were unsure exactly where to go for class. Class held in a weird donut shop that had greasy slippery floors. Class was involved only to chop vegetables. We watched with her back to us. Eventually people just milled around talking to each other. Can't say that I learned much about Ghana or it's food. At the end the instructor handed out flyers to pass out to our friends so they could take classes from her for $50 - we had paid $69. She was a nice person, but didn't really engage or involve the students. The location seemed odd and not very clean.
