As a mother of two and former preschool teacher, Dr. Ada Nwoku of KidzTown Dental knew she wanted to work with young people even before going to dental school. But you don't have to look at her résumé to see that she loves kids; virtually every wall in her office is decorated with cartoon animals. In her colorful waiting area, there's a video-game station equipped with age-appropriate games, a flat-screen TV, and an open area for kids to practice their toothbrush-acceptance speech.

Once patients are in her chair, Dr. Nwoku treats kids and adults alike to the full spectrum of dental services, such as cleanings, fluoride treatments and digital x-rays. Although her gentle chair-side manner and spot-on Mr. Rogers impersonation go a long way toward keeping patients comfortable, she also offers nitrous oxide to help calm pretreatment jitters.
