We truly enjoyed our leisurely day in Old North St. Louis on May 19. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming all 'round. We ate a fresh and delicious lunch at La Manga restaurant; window shopped the retail stores along 14th Street; appreciated the music; were amazed by the significant number of houses and businesses being rehabilitated by new and old residents; surprised to see a co-op grocery within walking distance of homes and the development of a community garden by residents. Loved the house tour! We were last here about 8 years ago for a visit to Crown Candy Kitchen, when the surrounding area looked unsafe, fairly desolate and nearly abandoned. Your group should be justifiably proud of the positive changes your work has brought to 'Crown Center'.

There is a perception that the area is dangerous. I met some wonderful people and was very impressed by what they have accomplished. It is unfortunate that they don't get more support from the city - and from their alderman.
