Option 1 & 2: 4 or 8 Week Introductory Historical Fencing Class: Learn to swordfight in our Intro to Historical Fencing class! In this course you will learn the basics of fencing with the Medieval two-handed longsword, renaissance rapier and dagger, sword and buckler, smallsword, saber, and more! The class focuses on developing the essential footwork, technique, and tactics, needed to become a historical fencer. Fencing is a fun and exciting sport, a great workout, and we welcome all skill levels and athletic abilities.
No prior experience needed. Participants must be at least 15 years of age, and any student 17 or under must have parent's or legal guardian's permission. Classes begin on the first Saturday of every month. Please email or text us to reserve your place in a class after purchase. Space is limited!
Option 3: Try Historical Fencing: Interested in trying out Historical Fencing but not ready to commit to 4 or 8 week course? You, your signicant other, & friends can schedule a one time session to experience the sport of Historical Fencing, learn about the different weapons we teach, and most importantly, fence! Available for individuals or groups of up to ten. Individual classes will be 45 minutes, groups of 3 or more will be an hour and a half session. Sessions can be scheduled at your convenience during our normal business hours. Please email or text us after purchase to schedule. Availability is limited!
What you'll need to join: Due to COVID protocols, participants must show proof of vaccination, and provide their own fencing mask in order to participate (does not apply to the one time Try Historical Fencing Class where no mask is needed). Fencing masks may be purchased through the club at a discounted rate. Please email or text us for more information about the fencing masks.
Additional requirements: Students will also be required to sign a waiver, code of conduct and wear the appropriate athletic attire covering any exposed skin, which consists of a long-sleeved shirt, full-length pants (quarter-length pants with knee-high socks also acceptable), and a pair of gloves: leather, gardening, work gloves are all acceptable. The Metropolitan Historical Fencing Academy (MFHA) is a Historical Fencing (also known as HEMA) School located in Lorton, Virginia, run by nationally and internationally known coaches with more than 20 years of experience.
