Really great thing to do with family and honestly I think its much more interesting for the adults then it was for any kids that were there. Very interesting tour and love all the great things they are doing at the farm. Got to sample some of their raw cheese at the end which was amazing and they have a very cute little store where you can shop. Everyone who works there is very nice and accommodating. Highly recommend!

What a great day spent at the dairy farm. Amy was extremely knowledgeable about the farm and eating healthy, and the owner stopped to talk with us as he was passing by in his tractor. That was a bonus! We learned so much in less than 2 hours. After the tour, we bought some of their fresh cheese and meats. What an inspiration for all future farmers.

What a fabulous experience for all ages. Go, see the animals (we got to see cute), taste incredible cheese, stock up on everything wonderful at the farm store, get some fresh air. Take an ice chest for all the farm fresh meats and crafted cheeses. Yum! Amy, you’re the best! Thank you for a great tour and experience.

It was so nice to get out from suburbia and enjoy some time at this farm! The people were warm and engaging. We learned a lot about sustainable farming and got to see all of the farm animals. The cheese they produce was amazing and we also enjoyed some complimentary hot apple cider!

It was very fun to see how cheese is really made. It's cool to think that it's being made right there...not in a cave in France on PBS. There was also information given about how they use the leftover materials at the farm. Sally was SO knowledgeable and by the end of the tour, I absolutely believe that this should be part of all agriculture / husbandry / veterinary curriculums in the area. After the initial presentation, there was a wonderful walk around the farm and it was so relaxing to be on a quiet farm visiting the animals. In addition to students and faculty, I highly recommend this tour for families, farmers and anyone interested in learning more about how and where food is really made as well.

About P. A. Bowen Farmstead

All of the Jersey cows at P. A. Bowen Farmstead are named after famed opera characters and singers. So it shouldn't come as a surprise that they're also treated like stars: They're milked each morning and then transferred to a wide-open, protected pasture each day. For owners Geoffrey Morell and Sally Fallon Morell, founding a farm was the next step after creating a nonprofit nutrition-education foundation—and their focus on raising healthy animals and food is evident across each of the property's 95 rolling acres.

Here, they care for a menagerie of livestock using rotational grazing techniques and modern farm technology—eschewing chemicals in favor of organic, bio-dynamic plant and animal care. Pigs root in the nearby forest, hens roam freely or settle into heated tractors in colder weather, and the bull sleeps at the foot of the owners' bed each night.

The farm's real specialty, though, is its dairy processing facility—regulated by the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene—which churns out several raw artisan cheeses. Saturday walking tours across the farm unveil the inner workings of the cheese-making process. Further revealing their processes, their regular classes educate guests on topics ranging from processing chickens to animal husbandry.
