The Destination
Palm Springs is no ordinary resort town. Sure, the pools, palm trees, golf courses, and spas—not to mention 350 days of annual sunshine—attract snowbirds and leisure travelers, but the city's decadent past as a hideaway for Hollywood's elite still lingers today. And perhaps more now than in recent years. The Palm Springs Historical Society has taken painstaking steps to preserve the city's iconic Mid Century Modern architecture, and many business owners have opened vintage restaurants and bars that pay homage to the city's swanky past (live piano with that martini, anyone?).

The Digs
Located alongside the designer shops and tall palms of North Palm Canyon Drive, the Skylark Hotel— originally constructed in 1955—has recently undergone a top-to-bottom redesign to capture the character of the mid-century modern era. In fact, the interior's striking décor has earned the property some pretty impressive press. Rooms are furnished with mahogany and walnut Danish reproductions and feature Egyptian cotton sheets, flat-screen TVs, and Wi-Fi, but the real appeal of this mod property lies in its mountain views and eye-catching exterior. Lounge by the shamrock-shaped pool in a lavender-hued chair as you soak up the famed Palm Springs sunshine. Throughout the years, a myriad of iconic personalities have visited the property. That tradition continues to this day as the hotel is regularly featured as a location for film and television productions. Fun, festive, and utterly flamboyant, the Skylark is an enticing Palm Springs hotspot.

  • "Today Palm Springs fancies itself a European-style resort with a dash of small-town Americana—think Jetsons architecture and the crushed-velvet vibe of piano bars with the colors and attitude of a laid-back Aegean village."
