Go big, or go home: when it comes to beer brewing, this is pretty much Lookout Brewing Company's motto. The self-named "glorified home brewers" make their beers one small batch at a time, with an emphasis on elaborate malts, a variety of hops, and big, bold flavor. Nearly all of Lookout's beers—75%—are brewed with locally malted grain from Asheville's Riverbend Malt Company. And if talking about beer while drinking beer isn't enough entertainment, Lookout also plays pro and college sports games on a 90-inch projection screen and hosts live music every Wednesday.

Here's a quick look at a few of Lookout's beers you might find on draft:

• Alison's Front Porch Pale: a hoppy, but well-balanced, pale ale, this summer-made brew uses locally grown hops and honey and caramel malts (5.8% ABV)

• Dark Town Brown: moderate hops blend with coffee undertones in this beer made with five kinds of malts (6% ABV)

• Heavy Hopster Scotch: sweet-roasted malt flavor gets just a hint of smoke before a bitter, hoppy finish in this malt-heavy beer (8.3% ABV)
