AVAM is my favorite museum! Unlike any other. The building itself is gorgeous, the exhibits always interesting. And the gift shop is far and away the BEST museum gift shop ever! Amazing selection of fun stuff and gorgeous books and wearable art, all at amazingly low prices.

This was our first visit to the American Visionary Art Museum. We were greeted at the door by two very friendly staffers and that started our visit off on a great note! Exhibits were interesting, very thought provoking and definitely worth a return visit. We had a wonderful time at the museum and exploring the surrounding neighborhood! The gift shop was awesome! We look forward to a return visit!

Loved this museum. Even got to see more whirligigs soon after our visit (in Wilson, NC) after learning about that artist at AVAM! Love the history/concept of AVAM and the amazing art and background stories about the artist. I will be returning!

Visiting this creative, often-changing museum is worth doing a couple or more times a year. Parking is free or low cost. Access off of 95 is just a few minutes. Everything from the sublime to the ridiculous as you can see in these pictures. Something for all ages and the best gift gift shop ever!
