About Prairie Winds Horsemanship

With 36 years of experience as a horsewoman, many of the facets of Tammy Chance’s history are familiar; active with 4-H and FFA, rode junior barrels at Cheyenne Frontier Days, and rode speed events in gymkhanas. This breadth of experience makes her well adapted for teaching riders of all ages and skill levels how to safely ride in the Western style. During lessons and day camps, students at Prairie Winds Horsemanship kick up the red dust of the ranch’s practice areas, and then comb it from their steed’s silky mane during postlesson grooming sessions.

Tammy does a great job teaching young people. The feedback I have received from my teenage daughter has been 100% positive, always looking forward to the next week's lesson.

Chance kept cancelling appointments. The first session was good. So I bought two more sessions. During the second session, my young daughter was placed on a horse with no instructions and left to walk around in the field on her own and was a little scared at first. We had been told the horse was not in the mood to be ridden. At the end of the ride a young lady was riding with my daughter and took them both into the other pin with the other horses. Chase was feeding the horses so my daughters horse took off to his stable nearly knocking my daughter against the wall and she ended up hanging upside down from stirrups. Two more sessions bought that I will never use.

There wasn't as much teaching and guidance. They would put my child on the horse and then just let her be and would then go off and talk to other people that happened to be around or go into the house. My child in turn was doing some of the things incorrectly, but wasn't being corrected by the instructor because the instructor was not around. The horse would not do anything unless it heard the instructor's advice, so of the two lessons, my child just sat on the horse and the horse didn't move for over half of each of the lessons and would not listen to commands.
