About Basque Museum

The Basque people are an indigenous ethnic group from the border of Spain and France. When many of them immigrated to the U.S., they settled in the Boise, Idaho region, where they assimilated into the American melting pot. But not all of that culture evaporated. The Basque Museum & Cultural Center celebrates that culture with exhibits and cultural programming including documentaries, dance lessons, and an annual festival. The museum's exhibits highlight Basque artwork and history with detailed displays on sheepherding, sports, and whaling. To bring the Basque culture into people's everyday lives, the museum also runs a Basque language preschool.

The gal working the desk was very personable with a great sense of humor. The exhibits range from photos to collections of artifacts to a full-scale replica of a caravan. Very informative and enjoyable, especially for genealogists or history buffs!
