About Audubon Society of Rhode Island

Jeffrey Hall will never toss a wrapper out the car window again. That’s because he knows that every piece of trash strewing the highway’s meridian attracts mice. And mice attract hungry hawks, who can’t always dodge oncoming trucks. Not everyone is so aware of the potential far-reaching implications of a single fast-food wrapper, but the Audubon Society director learned such lessons long ago, seeing first-hand the victims of those circumstances in injured hawks and falcons on just such a rescue.

Now, Jeffrey hopes to spark a similar awareness in his fellow Rhode Islanders. “When people learn about plants and animals, they appreciate them. And once they appreciate them, they want to save them,” says Mr. Hall. As no one in Rhode Island lives more than 20 minutes from an Audubon Society wildlife refuge, he's certain they can find ample opportunities to do so. In addition to conserving land for hikes and staring contest with owls, the Society boasts an Nature Center and Aquarium, which hosts events, programs, and interactive exhibits year-round. For the Audubon Society to thrive, Jeffrey knows the organization's programs must inspire young stewards. “They’ll grow up to be the voters who want to protect this land,” he says. That's why, among the many programs guests can partake in, the society also offers birthday parties and kid-friendly classes and an annual member appreciation party called AuduBonfire.

We love the aquarium here! There’s a little hands on play section where my girls literally spent an hour! They loved the microscope station and the scavenger hunt. The cornfield at night exhibit is also a favorite. Also can’t forget to stop in the gift shop on the way out! The grounds are gorgeous and great for a hike or even just an outdoor snack/picnic.

They immediately reached out to me to welcome me and tell me what to expect about my welcome package, how to use my membership in the interim, and encouraged me to ask any questions I a may have. So far, great communication and really looking forward to utilizing this and learning more about our state and all it's beauty.

My 4 year old granddaughter loves the nature center, and the trail, as well. I also like the fact that, with membership, you get a 10% discount on the bird feeders, houses, books, etc.

Can't wait until they reopen the indoor exhibit room. We always end up at the Nature Center on a rainy day and it was disappointing the exhibit was still closed, waiting for room repairs.
