Q&A with Sarah Meyer, and Ryan Thomann, Co-Owners
What sets your business apart from your competition?
Life:Curated is a complete lifestyle store, which means that we strive to better the design of your entire life—from our stylish and wearable clothing and accessories to our newly expanded beauty and apothecary department to our quirky home goods. And even more than that, we pride ourselves on being friendly and helpful rather than snobby and judgmental. We try to treat our customers like friends, which means that we'll give you our honest opinion about how you look in that dress, and that we're likely to dish gossip about last night's date.
What was the inspiration for starting this business?
We wanted to create a neighborhood store that reflected our own lifestyle—someplace we and our friends would want to shop. We take pride in every detail of our store but we try not to take ourselves too seriously, and we apply that philosophy to all aspects of our business.
What is the best reaction you’ve ever gotten from a customer?
We love hearing from customers that the staff is warm and approachable and that our merchandise is exactly what they're looking for. The best is when a first-time customer says, "You're my new favorite store."
What’s your favorite part about your job?
Collaborating with so many talented and creative people. It takes a lot to run a store, and we're so very fortunate to be surrounded with such a tightly knit community, including everyone from our vendors to our sales staff. We've fostered lots of new relationships because of the store, both professional and personal, and we feel blessed to keep such wonderful company.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
Well, we just gave the store a little facelift—repainted the walls, installed a whole new beauty department, freshened the merchandising a bit—and we're very excited about it. We've been open four almost four years now, so it was time for a bit of a refresh, and we're super excited to show it off.
