About Hofwyl-Broadfield Plantation

Nestled among the marshes of the Altamaha River, the Hofwl-Broadfield Plantation was home to an estate and a large rice-growing operation in the antebellum era. Today, it's a museum that illuminates the low-country lifestyle of its former inhabitants, the Brailsford family and their slaves. The main house is decorated in period style with 18th- and 19th-century furniture, the family's original silver, and vintage china, while an educational film teaches visitors about the history of the site, which became a dairy farm in the 20th century. A stop along the Colonial Coast Birding Trail, the plantation's grounds are often frequented by herons, ibis, and egrets.

Hardly anyone there. Staff very nice and knowledgeable. Absolutely loved touring the house and grounds with outbuildings. I plan to return.

This place was amazing! We went in and saw the movie then went to the house and all of the buildings. The grounds are so pretty. The live oak grow in such strange shapes.

The staff at the welcome center was most helpful. We had many questions and they were able to help us with each one. The movie about the land and house was most interesting and well done. The home was somewhat of a disappointment. It was originally built as a caretakers home---not a grande plantation home. Still well worth seeing if you are a history lover.

Was a wonderful experience ...Going back in time ,loved how the African Americans was given credit for building the South. Too bad Georgia does not realize that they are still the Iron of the South.......and no I am not African American, just a little white Old lady .But you have done a wonderful job in preservation.
