Bill and Chris Liakouras first opened The Parthenon's doors on July 5th, 1968—Chris's birthday. The restaurant turned out to be the gift that kept on giving. A mere two months later, the brothers dealt with lines that ran out the doors as people waited to taste their classic Greek food. Their popularity endured, and Chris managed the restaurant for more than 25 years before handing over the reins to his daughter, Yanna. Together, the father-daughter duo gave the forty seven-year-old eatery a facelift, while preserving the things that made it special.
According to Chris, The Parthenon was the first restaurant in Chicago to serve flaming saganaki or gyros. And over the past 47 years, the chefs have kept the iconic spits of lamb turning and the cheese alight. The menu contains plenty of other classic Greek dishes as well, such as Grecian Pasta and Chicken Breast Spanaki.
