About German Village Society

As the oldest historic tour on the national register, the German Village Society's Annual Haus und Garten Tour sends feet pattering across 233 acres of historic landmarks, enchanting gardens, and award-winning restorations. A year ago, the daylong celebration drew a total of more than 6,000 visitors, and this year, an even larger crowd is expected to be on hand to ogle and coax autographs from the 13 homes and gardens scheduled for display.

Tour-takers can meander along the route at their own pace, stopping to explore the shops and eateries in the marketplatz or to peek into classic abodes, which homeowners have transformed into chic, opulent spaces ideal for modern living or showcasing the latest trends in wool socks for coffee tables. In addition to the lineup of architectural stars, the tour will also be stocked with various live performances, including a rendition of The Scarlet Pimpernel in Schiller Park at 2 p.m.

Great class! Well-organized, clear explantions on techniques! I really appreciated that she gave us time to learn rather than rushing through to make sure we covered a set agenda. Lisa was friendly, helpful, patient. I came away understanding of the procedures ( still, of course, needing a LOT of practice:) and having had a wonderful time learningbnew skills. Loved this class and am looking at taking more! Highest recommendation!

I took a class on old book repair there taught by Lisa Omer of European Papers. Lisa is a great instructor; it was very interesting and the 4 hours flew by! She has lots of nifty unique items for sale during her workshops, too. She's only there when teaching workshops but you can google European Papers & see her many types of interesting workshops and buy items from her website.

Some of the lines were too long. This has been a problem for several years now. I think I've decided that due to the long lines, it's not worth it any more.
