About Sustainable Harvesters

When most people think of a farm, they picture cows wandering, fields being plowed, and scarecrows slowly becoming sentient. At Sustainable Harvesters, that picture is replaced by a greenhouse holding simple wooden tanks holding water—and, depending on where the farmers are in the growing cycle, lettuce, leafy greens, and herbs. The aquaponic system uses no pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, or growth hormones, and produces no agricultural runoff or greenhouse-gas emissions. It is a food production system that combines aquaculture—or raising fish—with the soil-free plant production of hydroponics to create an all-natural, chemical-free product.

That means their produce is as healthy and environmentally friendly as it can be when they deliver it to local restaurant and farm-to-table programs. In addition to selling produce and fish to dining establishments across the city, Sustainable Harvest educates the public on sustainable farming practices through tours and provides equipment for building your own aquaponics system, including tanks, air pumps, and growing supplies.
