About Otaru Japanese Restaurant/Lounge

Before Otaru transforms into a hub for evening entertainment at 10 p.m. each night, it draw in crowds with traditional Japanese fare, served for lunch and dinner. The restaurant is owned by a Japanese seafood wholesale and distribution company, which scores the kitchen crew ultimate access to the day's freshest catches. Seafood flies in from Japan, Scotland, Norway, Australia, Korea, Mexico, Indonesia, Vietnam, and other countries daily, and then chefs craft nutritious, artful meals to fuel patrons as they dance to DJs spinning house and hip-hop music.

Service was great, however music was very loud and felt like a club. That would be good if many people were there, but we were the only ones eating at the sushi bar and only regular bar had customers. The rolls were disappointing with very little fish, alot of rice and the sauces were over done on the specialty rolls. I have been here before and feel the quality has gone down. Even though group-on was a good deal, I still feel I did not get the quality for the discounted price. Not sure if there is new ownership or management, but the problem is NOT only the food nor the staff but starts at the ownership/management level. This could be a great place, it's in the best location in addison and the setup is great. My entire family is in the restaurant business and this is only my opinion. I wish Otaru the best, but please make some changes.

Atmosphere is not really family oriented, but more adult.

Food tasted good. But made us sick. Customer service this time was way better than two months ago when we visited.

The food was below average quality compared to what I've experienced in the past. No refills (or asked) on the hot tea. Sushi came out slow and the fish - crab and tuna - was overly fishy.
