About Civic Center Park

Held in honor of former North Carolina State University women’s basketball coach Kay Yow, the 4Kay Run raises proceeds for breast-cancer research through the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. During her 38-year career as a Division I head coach, Kay racked up 700 victories, a feat accomplished by only five of her peers. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, but went on to lead the U.S. women’s basketball team to a gold medal in the 1988 Olympics. Kay continued to fist-punch her way through the glass ceiling until her passing in 2009.
