About Capitol Vineyards

A 30-acre swath of lush, Red Oak Mountain terrain surrounds Capitol Vineyards' historic facilities, where owners Lauren Shrem and Matthew Noland forge an eclectic collection of French-style wines from Virginia grapes. With help from a resident French winemaker and vintners across the state, they press an array of vintages, dispensing the elixirs during events inside the facility's historic, rustic tasting room. Constructed as a post office in the 1800s and used as a general store in the early 1900s, the site still bears its original wooden bar, floors, and grizzled prospector.

Great service, clean environement, and she was very educated on the wine she was having us taste. An added plus, the labels on the bottles are adorable. Also, there is some history behind the tasting room and I belive is registered as a historic site.

It is out a back road, off the beaten path... Vines haven't matured yet, tasting room looks like a little run down farm house. Lesson #1 don't judge a book by its cover. What a great experience. The people that run it work in DC during the week, hence the name and do this on weekends. The building was the first African American owned general store and post office in that area. Very historic. The tasting is very different from what I've had. We didnt just taste wine. We talked about training the palette with salty and sour or spicy , chocolate, etc great service. Most of the grapes come from second location in Charlottsville. The bottles also depict personalities of capital hill and wine.

It would be nice if there was more of a lounging space where people could sit and enjoy your lovely wines and scenery.

Nice wine! Wasn't one I didnt enjoy. Need a few stools and ceiling fans on the porch to keep moscitos away. Really enjoyed the quant atmosphere. Tell your story and building history on the back side of menu. i read it online and it made the visit much more interesting You should share it with all.

It was very small and you only had 6 tastings but they have only been open for a year an half! I think they are doing great for being so new. And the people were very friendly.

It would be nice to get to try more than six wines and it would be really nice to have more whites.
