About Run 4 Restavek 5K

The Restavek Freedom Foundation estimates that 300,000 Haitian children are enslaved by the practice of restavek. Restavek children work as household slaves—cooking food, washing clothes, drawing water from the well, and other tedious tasks. They're not paid, not sent to school, and not treated as a part of the family.

To help draw attention to the problem, the Run 4 Restavek 5K brings runners together to thunder toward the finish line, helping the Restavek Freedom Foundation move toward its goal of ending such modern-day slavery in Haiti. The race kicks off at Volunteer Landing Park by the shore of the Tennessee River, where fish gurgle inaudible encouragement to the runners as they jog along.
