About Trails West Golf Course

Fort Leavenworth FMWR, an organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of soldiers and their families, welcomes military members and civilians alike to swing their way through the Trails West Golf Course. According to Trails West, when President Eisenhower was attending nearby Command & General Staff College, he used to drop by the 18-hole, par 71 course, where he developed his lifelong passion for game of golf. For more than 90 years, the 190-acre facility has inspired many other players to waltz across the fairways of zoysia grass and onto the bent-grass putting greens. Holes 2, 3, 10, and 13 present challenging par 5s, and hole 6 claims the title of signature hole.

Trails West Golf Course invites golfers to warm up at its lighted, covered driving range and two putting greens. Players can purchase gloves, clubs, at the pro shop or hone their game with instruction from PGA professionals. After a morning on the greens, players can drop by the Fairway Grille to munch a chicken-club sandwich or old-fashioned cheeseburger out on the patio.

Always great people behind the desk. And the snack bar is quite extensive with a large selection. Nice driving range as well which I see is being updated. Great value for a very good and competitive golf course.

We really enjoyed the course and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Being on the military base, you have to have a tee time scheduled prior to be able to get on the base. In addition to having vehicle registration, auto insurance and id, you need to allow a 1/2 hour to get onto the base.

#1. Lots of big trees. Old trees. Trees were probably big back when Eisenhower played here. Really big, old trees. Being in the fairway does not guarantee a good shot. #2. Most holes finish uphill. Club down two to three clubs and hit straight to avoid green-side bunkers or kicking off apron of green. #3. Fairways appear to be generous, but must pay attention to slope..... see #1. #4. Course has some birdie opportunities, but most holes are about making par.
