About Bhagavat Life

Located in the East Village, Bhagavat Life thrusts its doors open to welcome passersby pursuing healthy living through vegetarian dining and the ancient Ayurvedic holistic healing tradition. A 5,000-year-old Indian form of alternative medicine, Ayurveda is the practice of balancing five physical elements––earth, water, fire, air, and sky––to fuel the body and nurture a long, healthy life. Ayurvedic Nutrition and Culinary Training (ANACT) is offered at Bhagavat Life where students can learn how to cook with simple but specific techniques and ingredients to create a variety of meals with tangible healing benefits for the body and mind.During cooking classes, chefs trained in Ayurvedic dining help newly minted cooks prepare four-course meals with a variety of vegetarian items and raw or gluten- and dairy-free victuals. In addition to intro cooking classes, Bhagavat Life offers seasonal cooking classes, or for a more private experience, offer group cooking classes and host dinners.

The whole experience was great-- the teachers are sincere in their believes -- the food was surprisingly tasty besides being health-- it was very enjoyable.

It was a great experience, the teacher was lovely, I learned a lot, the food was great and I appreciated that they were well chosen menu items for a demo (vs a cooking class) so I actually felt like I could take what I learned and recreate it at home. It was great.

I had a great time and the class was very good as well as the food! Very warm and welcoming atmosphere. I only wanted to note that I wish the class was advertised as Ayurvedic cooking so I would have a better idea of what to expect. I am familiar with Ayurveda and the first hour of class was introduction to it which was too basic for me.

While I really enjoyed the class, I had expected some hands on practice and was a bit disappointed that it was basically a 2 hour lecture. I agree that it would be difficult to have all 15 of us practice, but perhaps cutting down the class size was allow you to accomodate at least a bit of practice for all the students. The recipes were delicious but I learn best by doing! Also, I would have preferred a discount on the next classes rather than the precooked food. It is a great offer, but I want to learn how to cook, which is why I took the class in the first place.
