Traif: A User's Guide
Global Soul Food | Shareable Small Plates | Focus on Pork and Seafood | Stunning Garden Patio | Acclaimed Bacon Donuts
Sample Menu
- Small plate 1: seared butterfish with spring peas and tomato marmalade
- Small plate 2: foie gras with bacon, a sunny-side-up egg, and maple syrup, which the New York Times praised for its “chutzpah”
- Small plate 3: a salad of snap peas, arugula, grapefruit, sunflower seeds, feta, and spiced and smoked vinaigrette
- Dessert: bacon donuts with dulce de leche and coffee ice creams, which Brooklyn Magazine hailed as “devilishly delicious”
What to Drink: Though Traif's wine and beer options are ample, its cocktails are the real star. Exhibit A: the Rude Little Pig's blend of orange liqueur, pomegranate, and lapsang-infused tequila gets served up in a glass rimmed with bacon.
What's in a Name? Traif, the Yiddish word for "non-kosher," is an apt moniker for an eatery dedicated to pork and shellfish. However, Chef Jason Marcus whips up several kosher options for the neighboring Hasidic community, as well.
Where to Sit: If the weather's nice, try grabbing a spot on Traif's outdoor garden patio, which Atlantic Monthly called “stunning.”
