About American Natural Food & Cafe

The chefs at American Natural Food & Cafe strive to expand American palates with a menu of dishes influenced by foods from all over the Mediterranean basin. A perennial list of French-inspired Moroccan cuisine anchors an ever-changing lineup of specials drawn from many countries, allowing a menu of Mediterranean-Moroccan fusion food. For example, salads and burritos are made with fresh, organic ingredients, and couscous is prepared in the Doukkala Province method, paying homage to the chef's roots.

For those inspired to whip up their own Mediterranean dishes at home, the eatery's grocery-store section provides aspiring chefs with spices and hand-selected, naturally raised foods from around the world. The packed shelves provide a backdrop to intimate tables lit by strings of lights and candlesticks.

Don't let the look of the place or the location put you off....Owner is a Oakland/East Bay treasure and the food was good. The decor is funky and full of history. The owner is a wonderful story teller and just personable and welcoming. Definitely will go back

This is not your usual American restaurant; rather, one is transported out of the country to another world in terms of décor. The restaurant is set in the middle of a store selling the most amazing things. The owner is into organic and prides himself on feeding his family right. He was extremely gracious and the food--choice is chicken or meatballs, both are good but I liked the meatballs better--is very good. Think of this experience as a trip out of the country while still safe in Oakland, very close to Emeryville, on San Pablo. Would definitely return if only to continue my chat with the interesting Moroccan owner.

This is for people--of which I'm sometimes one--looking for something way off the beaten path. Very limited selection of very tasty authentic Moroccan dishes--cooked with love! Dowdy/exotic/Middle Eastern-hospitable ambiance. Brimming with soul! If you're ready for it, beautiful; go; taste and see!

in America, "bait and switch" is illegal. Please don't offer food to anyone ever again. I've never tasted anything so disgusting in my life and threw it all in the compost after only a bite. And if you're living in that pigsty, that's illegal too, as is the state of your kitchen.
