About Phoenix Oktoberfest

It might be hard to fly to Munich to participate in the city's world-famous Oktoberfest, but the hosts of Phoenix Oktoberfest—the Arizona Center for Germanic Cultures—guarantee an authentic Oktoberfest experience. Festival attendees dance the polka, cheer on the competitors trying to hold their beer steins the longest, and chow down on foot-long brats, roasted chicken, old-fashioned apple strudel, pretzels, and German potato salad. The Phoenix Oktoberfest even features traditional music from Die Echten Waldbaum, a band that flies in from Germany every year for the fest.

And of course, no Oktoberfest is complete without beer. Phoenix Oktoberfest pulls out the big barrels with four Warsteiner brews including the special Oktoberfest, Pils, Dunkel, and Hefeweizen brewed in Germany. Those who don't care for beer can sip wine, schnapps, and Jägermeister drinks.

Although the festival was well organized, it just was not what my friends and I expected. The ambiance was more of a low key, family festival, rather than a upbeat party atmosphere that was depicted on the online images.

Too many vendors had nothing to do with Germany or German culture.

Overall, it was very small and didn't have as many vendors for food, goods, and souvenirs. There are literally 5 items to eat: apples, bratwurst, chicken, kettle corn and funnel cake. I made an entire round of the fest in 6 minutes. Considering how big of a city phoenix is, I'm pretty disappointed :(

Paid admission and had to pay for everything inside. Needed more vendors and something for our admission.
