Sylvan Insight: Our four-step approach

ASSESS: Our assessment gives you insight you won’t get anywhere else. Our computer adaptive test pinpoints your chlld’s strengths and needs. Our caring experts evaluate your child’s abilities in oral reading, writing and basic math operations. We explore your child’s habits and attitudes toward school, which can affect performance. And we may collect additional input from you and your child’s classroom teacher. 

PLAN: We create a custom learning plan — we identify exactly where your child should be placed along Sylvan’s Learning Progression to get the best results. This progression maps out all the skills students need to learn from kindergarten through 12th grade in the order that makes the most sense to learn them. Your child’s personal plan moves along this progression, adapting to your child’s individual performance.

TEACH: This is where things really start to click! We combine expert, personal instruction with digital tools to accelerate learning. A Sylvan teacher uses the iPad — rather than a chalkboard or worksheets — to teach lessons. This allows our teachers (and our exercises) to adapt to your child’s skill level and pace. Our teachers guide and encourage your child to make learning rewarding and fun. (Yes, those are smiles you’re seeing!)

APPLY: Results are extremely important to you and to us, and we guarantee progress. We measure and track the progress your child is making with each lesson, including how well your child is applying his or her new skills. In addition to new skills, you’ll begin to notice that homework time gets easier. Big tests turn into big scores. School becomes fun. Your child is confident and excited to learn. Communication

All along the way, we communicate with you and your child’s classroom teacher on a consistent basis. This helps ensure your child is applying the skills being learned at Sylvan in school. In addition to speaking with us, you can get 24/7 information on your child’s
