About Opera Roanoke presents "Susannah"

When you're starting an opera company, it's a good idea to bring in advisors who know what they're talking—and singing—about. Opera Roanoke did exactly that when they enlisted Metropolitan Opera stars Eleanor Steber and Irene Dalis as mentors in the company's first years. With their guidance, the group gained greater artistic acclaim, and soon began staging renowned works including La Boheme, Madame Butterfly, and Beethoven's Fidelio. Today, the opera continues to produce stirring masterworks featuring acclaimed performers, lavish sets, and remarkably tuneful conversations.

Loved the deal price on the tickets...it has been quite a while since we have been due to the rising cost of the performances.

For a small town in Virginia, the Opera Roanoke puts out a great performance. I enjoyed this live performance better than the Met's televised production I saw earlier this spring. Both Hope Briggs and Scott Piper sang beautifully. The set design was simple but perfect for the small stage and the Roanoke Symphony did a great job. It was an great afternoon, worth a drive from Lexington.

The production of Il Trovatore was wonderful. Thanks for bringing back two fully staged operas each year!

Seats in far back corners (under the balcony) have a very poor view and overpriced for an event like this. There should be a disclaimer about inability to comfortably view either of the supertitle screens. Front of the proscenium could be temporarily lowered (easily done using a hanging frame with black cloth front as is done with many productions in Europe). That would allow hanging the supertitle screen lower making it easier to read and view the action at the same time.

A wonderful venue that was very relaxing. Quite a diverse crowd, everything from jeans to tuxedos. The acoustics were fantastic, the staging and lighting perfect. I was raised on rock-n-roll, but the opera was FUN!

I'm a musician with a masters degree in music, but I've never been to a live opera before. I was amazed by the soloists, orchestra, costumes, sets, everything!! Bravo! This was a high quality performance right here in Roanoke.
