About Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society

Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society came together to preserve an old-fashioned art form—the feel-good Dixieland and ragtime tunes of the early 20th century—but the group is by no means stuck in the past. Since it was founded in 1968, the Society has welcomed successive generations into these evergreen musical traditions with a Jazz Education program and youth-band and mentorship opportunities. More visibly, it's suffused the city with irresistible clarinet licks and trumpet riffs through public events including the Sacramento Music Festival, the free Jazz in the Park series, and one-off events in unusual spaces such as a barn or a pond filled with harmonious bullfrogs.
