About City Kayak

City Kayak offers guided or unguided tours to scenic San Francisco sites such as Alcatraz, the Golden Gate Bridge, and South Beach Harbor during. Visitors can navigate their way beneath the Lefty O'Doul drawbridge and catch home-run hits soaring out of the baseball stadium and into McCovey Cove, or advanced paddlers can traverse strong winds and tidal currents en route to Treasure Island. City Kayak also schedules classes, which teach students basic sea-kayaking skills, self-rescue techniques, and how to eskimo roll, an escape maneuver that one could use to avoid the songs of tone-deaf penguins. City Kayak rents out gear such as wetsuits and booties and also sells a collection of kayaks, paddles, and accessories to equip paddlers for future travels.

Arrive early. You get very wet so wear something old and comfortable. Friendly staff and they even let you bring your small dog.

Only on the water for an hour for a 2 hour kayak package. This trip goes into the south creek. It was pretty cool, would have liked to been on the water a bit longer as we were in & out the front door in less than 2 hours.

Bring gloves to protect your hands from calluses and blisters, if you're a beginner. When you've done the Mission Creek route once, it becomes a bit boring. Just rent a kayak for a few hours and go out on the bay. Good customer service and good location. They do get booked up several weeks in advance so don't hesitate.

Dress w/ layers... bring suntan lotion. it won't exactly be 2 hrs on the water, but still if you pick the right day weather-wise, it's a treat to be on the water in China Basin. Very nice people running the place, which is at the end of the pier inside a warehouse looking building.

The instructor and most of the crew were super friendly and helpful. But the man that pulled me in after the trip and to get out of the kayak was a bit rude, this was a beginners trip and he was upset when I couldn't stop my kayak to avoid bumping into the deck, he made it seem as if I should have known how to stop it from happening. This was the only bump in my experience, definitely a good deal for beginners, not for someone looking for a challenging experience. I felt there was a lot of waiting since some of the people in the group had not been kayaking before, we often had to wait for them to catch up made the trip a lot slower. Over all great service and good equipment!
