About GiftedandTalented.com

As GiftedandTalented.com founder Matthew Mugo Fields told Time magazine in 2015, "Intelligence should be seen as the end goal, not the starting point." To that end, his website's advanced learning programs–developed by Stanford University–weren't created exclusively for children who have already achieved academic success.

Using 25 years of ongoing research by Stanford University, the online curriculum uses non-traditional techniques to get students of all levels thinking about academics in more engaging, practical ways which offer real-world application. For instance, a math unit might culminate in a project that asks the student to power a city using different energy sources. Or a lesson on speed and distance might use a space-travel game to demonstrate how quickly asteroids will hit the pilot's spacecraft.

Whatever the subject, the curriculum is personalized and adaptive, allowing kids to bypass skills they've mastered in favor of topics they struggle with and helping many kids improve their standardized test scores to more than twice the national average, according to a study done by New York University.

I bought the Independent Study Math and ELA combo. It is AWESOME! It is interactive, engaging, fun, and grade level appropriate. My son's ask to keep going even after their "required time" has been met. I love the statistics (I am a geek). Even the email progress notifications are written as positive and encouraging to both the student and parents. Note: Start up was rocky because of our browser settings. A quick search on G&T page for "browser settings" revealed clear instructions on how to set up your browser to work with their (pop up based) system.

Start at a slightly lower level than your child currently is working at. Will help build momentum & confidence!

My son, a very intelligent kid about to enter 7th grade, found this program to be very frustrating. All answers are in your words, not a/b/c/d, and if the program doesn't like how you word your answer, it is wrong. Wasted my money on this one.

My son who is entering the 7th grade finds the programs "easy and boring" after two days. He usually is excited about learning. I believe the games are not advanced enough for his age.
