About The Ice Box

As if in homage to simpler times, the menu lettered beautifully on The Ice Box's chalkboard is short and sweet. The main draw here is frozen treats, waffle cones piled high with Marianne's Ice Cream, and sweet popsicles made in-house in flavors such as thai iced tea. Diners construct a squarer meal when they order one of the shop's savory treats, including paninis fresh off the grill and crepes folded around turkey and avocado. Guests can sit outside and admire the retro-style signage; inside, they can lunch next to the 1928 combination stove-ice box and try to get it to tell who was really president back then.

The first time we tried to visit, it was closed during their posted hours so we went elsewhere. I returned a few weeks later and it was open, but poorly stocked. I tried to purchase a quart of the homemade soup for take-out but was told they only had enough for the smaller 12 ounce container. They offered to substitute half with another soup which was fine with me, except that they gave me 2 12 ounce containers which isn't a quart, it's 3/4ths of a quart. I asked for a full quart but I don't think they understood why I was complaining and gave me just speck extra in a separate container. I asked for a cup of iced coffee, which wasn't made and I didn't want to wait. Won't be going back.
