Jill Labberton is big on composition. Because she first started taking photographs more than 20 years ago, she learned to use film rather than digital cameras. This training necessitated a thorough understanding of color, arrangement, and lighting (she prefers the natural kind) for her work, and she still brings this knowledge to the table today. In fact, she's channeled it for high-profile clients such as Estée Lauder and the Four Seasons Hotel. Her interest in composition extends even to her detailed consultations with clients, when she'll ask where the portrait will hang in their home, and keep its placement in mind when composing the portrait.

Jill specializes in photographing families and children, and has a penchant for capturing personalities in her images. To that end, she asks her subjects questions about their family's unique character, what they'll wear, and who blinks the most often. She also tries to keep groups candid during her sessions, which are full of surprises meant to yield honest reactions.
