About Old Barracks Museum

The Old Barracks was constructed in 1758 to house British soldiers during the French and Indian War. Since then, the barracks have seen many turbulent times, including serving as a military hospital during the American Revolution. Now converted into a museum, patrons can walk through the barracks, read about colonial and American history, and view 18th-century artifacts and weapons. 45-minute guided tours are also offered on the hour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

We had heard prior to going that this tour was very short and barely worth the time. On the contrary, we were with our guide as he walked us through the enlisted and officers quarters, and even had the added bonus of getting to discuss Washington's strategies with him. He was VERY knowledgeable, and the tactics were by far my favorite part. I also enjoyed the hospital (with another guide), and learning about bleedings and smallpox. Informative and fun!

Really enjoyed this. The tour was great and the movie is a nice complement. We followed with a quick tour of the actual site of Washington's crossing a few miles up the road.
