Stepping into Lucille's American Cafe is like time-traveling back to the 1940s, the era of its namesake. The classic retro neighborhood café keeps certain modern touches—like current appliances, and the term "cafe" instead of the more historically accurate "luncheonette"—the menu hews pretty closely to the food Lucille knew and loved.

Take the baby back ribs, smothered in barbecue sauce. The chefs use house-made barbecue sauce for that dish, because Lucille had never heard of bottled barbecue sauce. The Lucille Sandwich sticks even closer to her preferences. Its grilled rye bread comes stuffed with all her favorite post-holiday leftovers: sliced turkey, coleslaw, Swiss cheese, and Russian dressing, with an optional side of shredded wrapping paper. The cafe has also expanded to include a takeout menu with many of their homemade classics, including fresh-baked desserts, gelato, and specialty grocery items.
