In the early 1900s, Green Hills Golf Course looked quite different. Back then it was the site of Andrew Green's sprawling family estate, complete with 549 acres and an enormous mansion. The city of Worcester purchased the estate from Green's family after his death in 1903, and in 1925, it hired Massachusetts Open champion and PGA founding member Willie Ogg to transform the land into a municipal golf course.
Since then, the course has gone through numerous transformations, including a complete redesign by renowned course architect William F. Mitchell after devastating floods in the late 1960s and another revamping in 2013. It has played host to various New England PGA and USGA events over the years.
Golfers still flock to the course for its well-maintained greens and fairways and challenging hills. In the fall, golfers are treated to views of beautiful fiery foliage, a.k.a. New England's most famous sight after Bill Belichik's short-sleeved hoodies.
