Went there 42 years ago . The monument is a very historic building and the museum is definitely a place to see with many artifacts from years gone past.

You get a great view from the top of the monument. There are stairs to the top, "no elevator" so plan on a little work out.

It had been thirty years since we visited the monument; went on our honeymoon. Did not remember the museum then, but thoroughly enjoyed it. We did visit during a sustained Nor "ester, so we opted to forego the climb up into the monument. We do remember stunning views from our visit years ago.

Just to take it all in...... videotape your trek up into the monument....it's fantastic!...when you reach the top, it is like nothing that you've ever seen. Viewing the plaques with every step taken remind you that you are also reliving a piece of american history. The museum was very informative on the history of the monument and the artifacts were fascinating to see. To live in the moment through photos, invitations, documentations and the films that showed how the monument was erected and the men who built it, made you realize that to build this monument in itself was a feat all it's own!! I am proud to be an american!!!!

Walk to the top! It's so worth the climb! Staff was very helpful and museum is very well done. The view from the top of the monument was the highlight of our trip. Pay to park at the monument for the day and walk to Commercial Street from there. It's the cheapest parking in town.
