As a rather obsessed astronomy hobbyist, I was excited to purchase these for the kids in my world, as a step toward getting them excited about astronomy. Well, there are star coordinates, and there are catalogs which list the coordinates for each star name (these are numerical0. When you order the star, they give you the address -- they give you the positional address, and then the names of the star in two catalogs, the HIP and the HD. Well, for all 3 stars I ordered, each of those addresses were unique -- so there was no actual specific star, just three random addresses for one supposed star. Worse still? One of my stars will NEVER be visible in North America. When I contacted the company, they didn't even understand the issue with the star catalog address -- which suggests they actually know not even the most basic things about astronomy, they are just writing the equivalent of blah blah blah on the certificate! AND, as far as choosing a star that would never be seen in North America, instead of simply saying something like "Oh, let us reassign you," they responded "Nowhere on our website does it say you will ever be able to see it." UGH, talk about money down the drain. Just buy some paper and make up your own imaginary number, that's essentially what they give you. I knew going in that this wasn't an internationally recognized star name, but was ok with the idea that it would exist just within their listing -- the idea was getting the kids excited, and showing them 'their star.' Well, that would require an ACTUAL SOLE POSITION FOR IT, not three random different numbers thrown up there, for one star. SMH. Save your dollars!

Horrible star present. If you try to email them about it, the email says it’s not an actual email and sends the email back to me. Do not buy this!!!

What do you buy for the person who has everything? If they've exhausted the markets on earth, it might be time to turn to the stars. Established in 1980, doles out celestial real-estate—or fake-estate considering you don't technically own something until you can plant a flag on it. It's really the extras that make the packages. Via online, a certificate with the star's name and coordinates makes the whole thing seem official, but digital downloads of astronomy e-books, interactive guide to astronomy app, and beautifully designed antique-style star charts make the packages perfect for aspiring astronomers and star-gazing hobbyists.
