Multi-grade oils—such as 10W-30—perform well in both cold starts and high-temperature operation. The number before the “W” reflects cold-weather flow, while the number after the hyphen represents viscosity at operating temperature. Polymers inside the oil expand as the engine heats up, helping maintain proper thickness and protection.
