About Calusa Nature Center & Planetarium

Calusa Nature Center & Planetarium, an environmental education non-profit that began as a project by Lee County's Junior Welfare League in the 1960s, is a 105-acre facility that hosts injured wildlife native to the Fort Myers area in addition to surrendering. These animals—plus the birds of prey from their rehabilitation aviary, the newest addition to the property—are the stars of daily animal demos and special talks by volunteers and specialists.

After a stroll through the butterfly house or down one of three walking trails, which meander through the cypress dome swamp and neighboring pine flatlands, guests take a load off at the onsite planetarium: the 44-foot dome can host up to 90 people for their astronomy and laser shows. Camps, field trips, and nature clubs take advantage of the meeting pavilions and picnics areas around the nature center.
