Cancún: Cool White Sands and Mayan Relics

Located on a barrier island shaped like the number seven, Cancún’s Hotel Zone juts into the Caribbean Sea at the northeast tip of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula. With the sea on one side and freshwater lagoons on the other, it’s a popular spot for sailing and snorkeling. Although the beaches and barrier reefs are a major draw, the geography is equally enticing further inland, where you can dive into an underground river or take a speedboat through a mangrove jungle.

The stone columns of El Rey Ruins, an ancient Mayan site dating back to the second and third centuries BCE, lie within the city’s Hotel Zone. Believed to be a royal burial ground, the archaeological site is also home to wild iguanas that lounge in the sun.

At first sight this resort seemed so nice. The food was horrible, bland no taste, and overcooked. No options, the same thing served everyday. Bar service was good, waterpark was ok, and the tunnel to get across was nice. The condiments station had a dead bird on top of it, no one did anything about it even after being shown the dead bird. Beach was dirty! Horrible place. Run!!

My room was broken into and ransacked right after checking in. We checked in and set our bags down to go eat after long travels and someone came in to our room and stole a ton of stuff in the 2 hours we were not in the room. I spent the next 4 days trying to get answers because no one cared enough to help us. Apparently we were the 3rd room to get hit. The food was HORRIBLE! Buffet is not a buffet but a choice of two sides, salad and meat. Gross!

Overall it was a good vacation for me and my son. They need to upgrade the room interior . The food was horrible in my eyes so we jumped in taxis a lot and went out in the evenings for lunch and dinner . Can’t understand why they don’t use straws in Mexico (so nasty to me ) Hotel staff was very nice. Overall still a good trip Hotel charges $50 each for CoVID tests if you want it

The staff was extremely friendly and accomodating but the resort itself is a little dated and needs some refreshing. Unfortunately upon our arrival, we were given the wrong room (not a Jr Suite). The mattresses were in horrible condition and what I think was a storage area right next to our room looked as if it had water damage (mold) at the bottom of the door because of it being in an open ceiling area after the rain, water was right in front of our door (slippery when wet). The staff did accomodate us and move us to another room which was an Oceanfront Jr. Suite. It was fine until we started noticing a lot of ants but that was towards the end of our stay and we did let the front desk know. The food was fine but it caters to the Hispanic community except on nights when there was dinner and a show (themed food). The shows were excellent! Mark & Miso from Entertainment is the Dynamic Duo! Bartenders Diego and Eduardo are the TOPS! Make sure to get a massage by Adrian! I wouldn't vacation there again but we made the most of the hiccups and it turned out we had fun after all!
