Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic: Waterfalls, Beaches, and Centuries-Old Historical Sites

Situated on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic, Puerto Plata is best known for its sun-kissed beaches. But the province has several breathtaking geographical features inland as well. Damajagua is a natural water park of sorts—it features 27 waterfalls flowing from limestone formations. Tour guides lead groups through the falls, and you can swim and occasionally slide down the natural water slides.

You can get an aerial view of Puerto Plata and the Caribbean Sea on a teleférico, or cable car. One of them climbs 2,565 feet to the apex of Mount Isabel de Torres, which is crowned with botanical gardens and a replica of Rio de Janeiro's massive Christ the Redeemer statue. Take a scenic drive to Parque Histórico La Isabela and you'll find the remains of a church as well as the ruins of a colonial village.

Worst Resort EVER. First of all they lie when they tel you that you do not have to do a time share tour. You do - it takes forever and they are VERY PUSHY. We stayed for 8 night and there were no reservations for a single a la carte restaurant, until I sat in the lobby for 3 hours and demanded a manager. The power went out in the resort 6-14 times a day, no hot water for days. Don’t do this.

The entertainment staff was amazing. Nikki (Brialin) , Ninja and the rest of the team were great. I will definitely come back again. Loved my vacation. The cute dogies on the beach are a plus.

When we have gone in the past, we automatically were put in or upgraded to the rooms by the beach. This time our family gathering of 12 were put in separate buildings and old rooms. We had to wait til after the weekend and had to pay $900 more to get rooms near each other. Groupon needs to ensure customers know exactly what they’re getting.

Zero stars this place has mold on the wall. The staff are very rude. I found roaches in my room. They also accused us of stealing face towels.
