Hotel at a Glance: Stewart Hotel

It’s impossible to visit Manhattan and not find something to do night after night, from visiting Times Square to lounging in Central Park to sampling the culinary treats at Chelsea Market. Stewart Hotel helps its guests ease the transition into the city life, attempting to mirror the feeling of being in a buzzing Broadway theater with its modern design and NYC-inspired lobby. Best yet, the hotel is within walking distance of some of the city’s best attractions, including Madison Square Garden and the Empire State Building.

  • Stylish accommodations: Suites are adorned with chic floral designs and equipped with iHome docking stations.
  • Grab a drink or dinner at the onsite Niles NYC restaurant.
  • Enjoy the unlimited access to a well-equipped 24/7 fitness center (included in the daily resort fee).
  • Location, location, location: The hotel is between Times Square—the city’s uber-busy tourist capital—and Chelsea, an affluent shopping district with an artistic streak.

Chelsea: Hip, Artsy Neighborhood near Times Square

Rows of independent art galleries line the blocks of 25th and 26th streets in Chelsea, located just southwest of Midtown Manhattan. Throughout the neighborhood are more than 350 such spaces—mostly in converted warehouses and factories—contributing to the area’s elite status in the contemporary art world. In addition to visual arts, prominent dance venues such as The Joyce Theater and The Kitchen showcase eclectic performances ranging from ballet to traditional Indian choreography.

From Chelsea, you can easily walk to Midtown to catch a Broadway musical or watch basketball, hockey, or big-name musical acts at Madison Square Garden. A little farther up Broadway, Times Square buzzes with sparkling billboards, giant wraparound news tickers, and nonstop neon lights. Even the MTA station here glitters. Keep an eye out for One Times Square, the site of the annual New Year’s Eve ball drop. Other points of interest include the Paramount Building and the Empire State Building, where you can see the city from the King Kong–approved 86th-floor observation deck.

The room was a good size, especially for NYC, but very dated and in need of repair. The wallpaper was peeling in several places both in the bathroom and bedroom. Dirt and dust came out of the a/c unit when I turned it on and got all over the bed. The television and phone didn’t work either! I won’t be staying here again.

The room I reserved was changed when checking in to a King when requested two double beds. The room was a suite with a kitchen but didn't benefit since I was staying one night. The room was dreary, not moderate except for the television.

Is not like photos at all, quite dark and gloomy and old rooms. Very pricey for a small dark room

Unfortunately did not receive a one queen bed for two. I was given 2 double beds which made the room super cramped and cluttered. The Stewart Hotel is located next to Penn Station which was very convenient for getting around. The hotel itself is very very dated. The staff is amazing. Starting with the Bellman, Housekeeper, and Vehicle attendant. Had it not been for the helpful and professional service they provided I might have relocated. Ashe was the bomb.
