The Skylands Manor - Ringwood, NJ

Castle in New Jersey Mountains

What You Get

View local health guidelines for travel here

  • Stay for two in a knight’s suite, King Alfred suite, Queen Antoinette suite, or Gatsby room; or four in a family chateau room

Property at a Glance: The Skylands Manor

With Skylands Manor’s weathered stone façade, it’d be easy to picture it in a medieval European city. The castle was actually constructed in the 1920s, but its anachronistic design—including arched doorways, a cross-gabled roof, and Tudor Revival touches—gives the manor a fairy-tale charm. It helps that the building stands amid 1,000 acres of gardens and woodlands.

  • Where you’ll stay: an opulent room or suite with chandeliers, gold-leaf molding, and built-in armoires.
  • Eat like royalty in the manor’s grand dining room, whose centerpiece is an imposing carved oak mantel.
  • Famous faces: The manor is run by Gerald and Robert Frungillo of Frungillo Caterers, whose reality show Masters of Reception ran on TLC.
  • Explore the grounds, which encompass a lakeside chapel and an orchard.

Ringwood, New Jersey: Former Mining Town Filled with Natural Treasures in Ramapo Mountains

The highland town of Ringwood sits 39 miles northwest of New York City in the Ramapo Mountains—a region filled with lakes, forests, and other natural attractions. Ringwood State Park is especially busy in the winter, when it’s a popular place for ice fishing, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. The park also contains some of the original buildings and mines dating back to the 18th century, when Ringwood was a leader in the iron industry.

Had a nice visit. Pros: Room was spacious. Inn keepers went above and beyond to make the experience pleasant. Beautiful woodworking. Cons: the rooms could use some updating for sure.. adding a little modern touches would be nice.. Bathroom and windows needed tending to.Furniture and room could use a little deep cleaning as there was cobwebs and dirt left behind from previous guests.

The Manor itself is beautiful. Richard the caretaker of the property was amazing and helpful. The rooms are vintage in nature and comfortable. We were not crazy about our Valentine’s dinner unfortunately, it was expensive and not the best but the service was outstanding. We will return again to the grounds when the weather warms up.
