About San Diego Zoo
San Diego Zoo is an urban paradise where kids and adults alike get to live out animal adventures. Visitors meander through the Zoo's winding botanical-garden paths, which lead to more than 4,000 rare and interesting animals—great apes and koalas, to name just a few. Special animal encounter sessions bring guests up close and personal with their favorite creatures, from feeding giraffes to combing the hair of a pygmy goat. And Animal Care Specialists are always on-hand to share their knowledge, teaching visitors about animal care and the zoo's conservation efforts.
San Diego Zoo offers a variety of ways to explore its sprawling grounds. Adventurous visitors can climb into a Skyfari aerial tram, which soars above the treetops for a bird's-eye view of the Zoo's animals, plants, and the surrounding picturesque Balboa Park (subject to availability). Guests who like to explore on foot can wander the gently winding, ADA-accessible pathway through Conrad Prebys Africa Rocks, 8 acres containing six habitats that spotlight the amazing biodiversity found on the African continent, ranging from savanna to shore. At 100 acres, the Zoo offers miles of trails where guests can view elephants, tigers, polar bears, lions, and more among over 4,000 rare and endangered animals representing more than 650 species and subspecies, and a prominent botanical collection with more than 700,000 exotic plants.
