In the dining room of Hachi 8, each table dazzles with decadent spreads of Japanese and fusion cuisine. A row of baked mussels, each wearing an-oven blistered dollop of sauce and toppings, lays on a bed of decorative branches, which itself yawns across the length of a banana leaf. A real orchid, its snow-white center deepening into violet-pink petals, crowns the tempura-battered Maggie roll, which conceals a spiral of fresh fish. Green onions and crushed peanuts, meanwhile, garnish the rib-sticking pad thai topped with shrimp.
