This course covers every module required under OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens Standard: what bloodborne pathogens are and how they are transmitted (including HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C); the OSHA BBP Standard (29 CFR 1910.1030) and what it requires of employers and employees; proper selection and use of PPE including gloves, gowns, face shields, and masks; workplace practices for exposure prevention including standard and universal precautions; how to respond to an exposure incident including first aid and post-exposure protocols; vaccination information including the Hepatitis B vaccine; and how to promote a safe environment and break the chain of infection.

OSHA Mandates Annual BBP Training for At-Risk Workers

Under OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, employers are required to provide BBP training to all employees who have a reasonable expectation of exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials — and to maintain records of that training. This applies across healthcare, emergency services, laboratory settings, body art, childcare, custodial work, and more. Certification must be renewed annually to remain compliant. Employers who fail to provide and document this training face OSHA penalties.
